Asheville, N.C. – The Van Winkle Law Firm announced today that attorney Robert H. Haggard has been honored as a recipient of the NCBA Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law Section’s Distinguished Service Award.
Established in 2018, the award honors attorneys with expertise in the area of estate planning and fiduciary law who have provided exemplary, outstanding, and distinguished service to the section, the North Carolina Bar, its practitioners, and the public. The award was presented on Thursday, July 21st, at the section’s annual meeting and CLE at Kiawah Island, S.C.
Robert “Bob” Haggard was a partner with The Van Winkle Law Firm’s Trusts, Estates, and Elder Law practice for over 40 years, before his retirement in 2019. During his tenure with the firm, he was a Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law. Haggard earned a fellowship in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, whose members must have over 10 years of experience practicing probate and trust law or estate planning, and are elected based on their outstanding reputation, exceptional skill, and substantial contributions to the field. He is a Former chairperson for the North Carolina Bar Association, Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law Section, Board of Governors, as well as a North Carolina State Bar Former Chairperson in the Estate Planning and Probate Law Specialization Committee.
Haggard has been AV Peer-Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, recognized as a Best Lawyer in America for over 10 years, and is a member of the Business North Carolina Legal Elite Hall of Fame.
Active in the WNC community, Haggard was a Former Chairperson of the Community Foundation of Henderson County and a Past President of the Rotary Club of Asheville. He served as a captain with the U.S. Army J.A.G. Corps from 1974 to 1978.
