Currently, Hard Cider cannot be freshly bottled in growlers for a customer to take home. Instead, businesses like Urban Orchard Cider Co. and Bar must pre-fill and seal the cider in the growler before opening. However, this may soon change in North Carolina. If passed, House Bill 532 will allow certain ABC permit holders to fill and re-fill growlers of hard cider on demand. The specific permits involved are the ABC’s On-Premises Unfortified Wine Permits, Off-Premises Unfortified Wine Permits, and Wine Shop Permits.
