April Lawhon Gremillion is a Senior Attorney in the Van Winkle Law Firm’s Business Law practice group. Her current practice focuses on Mergers and Acquisitions and representing clients in general corporate matters. She can assist business clients with forming new entities, restructuring existing entities, selling their business, and acquiring new businesses. April is available to meet with clients in both our Asheville and Hendersonville office or remotely via video conference.
April’s past legal experience is broad, ranging from representing multinational financial institutions in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to representing children in Family Court. She has mentored attorneys across the southeast and successfully founded and ran her own small law practice. During and after law school, April worked for a general practice firm in Columbia, SC, gaining experience in criminal law, civil litigation, and real estate transactions. April has practiced law for over 20 years and is licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Texas. April has been practicing more recently in western North Carolina, representing business owners across the southeast in complex mergers and acquisition transactions.
During her career, April has continuously strived to improve both her professional and personal community by serving on legal committees and volunteering. She served on numerous committees with the South Carolina Bar, and chaired the South Carolina Children’s Law Committee, where she led a campaign to increase awareness of the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act. April contributed hundreds of hours of pro bono work through her work with the Midland’s Mediation Center and by serving as a mentor to young attorneys through the South Carolina Bar’s mentorship program.

April currently lives in Etowah, NC with her husband, Paul, and two dogs, Ollie and Lola. April hails from the rural community of Effingham, SC but even as a young child considered the mountains of North Carolina her second home.
April has always been driven to improve her community by helping and teaching others. In her youth, April assisted with the renovation of homes for people in need and participated in a variety of youth leadership programs. As an adult, April mentored children with an incarcerated parent through the Building Dreams program as well as mentoring youth though the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Currently April enjoys volunteering with her husband through organizations like The Pisgah Conservancy, Friends of Dupont Forest, Conserving Carolina, RiverLink, and Asheville GreenWorks.
In her free time, April enjoys hiking, traveling, and cooking with my husband and long leisurely walks in the woods with her dogs. When she can, she enjoys visiting with her friends and family, especially her 10 nieces and nephews. April’s hobbies include tennis and taking photos of mountain landscapes, wildlife, flowers, family, and friends.
