August 8, 2008 — Five attorneys from The Van Winkle Law Firm have been honored for their long-term work with Pisgah Legal Services. Larry Harris, Barry Kempson, Albert Sneed, Allan Tarleton and Michael Thompson received the organization's 20-year service award plaques in recognition of their two decades of pro-bono service to low-income clients of Western North Carolina.
"Through their 20-plus years of pro bono service to the Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyers Program, these volunteer attorneys have demonstrated their commitment to the principle of equal access to justice, and to the integrity of the legal profession," said Jennifer Foster, administrator of MAVLP and Pisgah staff attorney.
"Without such dedicated service, many low-income Pisgah Legal Services clients would have been shut out of the legal process and denied their most basic needs – housing, safety and health care. Thank you to these Van Winkle attorneys for their outstanding service to people who have nowhere else to turn."
