Prior to settling in Asheville, Ryan lived in Michigan and Florida. He also served for two years as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He and his wife, Tonya, have two children, Nathan and Audrey. Away from the office, he enjoys the North Carolina outdoors and Michigan State University sports.
