Roy has been trying and negotiating civil cases in federal and state courts, usually for the defense, since he joined Van Winkle in 1960. His tenure with the Firm has covered a broad spectrum of cases: personal injury torts; professional malpractice claims; business and employment matters; wills and estate litigation; commercial and environmental issues; and declaratory judgment actions.
Practice Highlights
- Negotiated $3 million purchase of mountain tract and lake rights with conservation easement for church conference center.
- Prosecuted wife’s injury claim arising out of a motor vehicle accident to lifetime disability award before the North Carolina Industrial Commission, then with husband’s lost consortium claim to $950,000 verdict in Superior Court. Also obtained judgment for UIM coverage from two of three involved insurance companies.
- Successfully obtained judgment for specific performance of $2 million land sale contract against allegations of mistake and fraud.
- Defended many claims against lawyers, healthcare providers, hospitals and other professionals.
