Roy W. Davis, Jr.

Roy has been litigating civil cases in federal and state courts since he joined Van Winkle in 1960. His practice has covered a broad spectrum of matters, including defending claims involving personal injury, professional malpractice, business and employment, wills and estate litigation, commercial and environmental issues, and declaratory judgment actions.

Practice Highlights

• Negotiated $3 million purchase of mountain tract and lake rights with conservation easement for church conference center.
• Prosecuted wife’s injury claim arising out of a motor vehicle accident to lifetime disability award before the North Carolina Industrial Commission, then with husband’s lost consortium claim to $950,000 verdict in Superior Court. Also obtained judgment for UIM coverage from two of three involved insurance companies.
• Successfully obtained judgment for specific performance of $2 million land sale contract against allegations of mistake and fraud.
• Defended many claims against lawyers, healthcare providers, hospitals, and other professionals.

Roy comes from a family full of lawyers; his father was an attorney, as are two of his four children. He’s in the office most Saturdays, but Roy’s wife, the lovely Madeline, occassionally pulls him away to their house at Lake Glenville where relaxation generally means beating back the wilderness (hence the chainsaw) and working on the files he brought along. 

When he’s not so engaged, Roy enjoys hiking, major league baseball, history, literature, and showing off his grandchildren.
