Meet Heather

Heather Whitaker Goldstein joined The Van Winkle Law Firm's Litigation Practice Group in August of 2012. She has successfully represented clients on a wide range of civil matters involving wills and estates, land transactions, trademark infringement, unfair trade practices, employment contracts, insurance, business contracts, banking, negligence and secured transactions.

Heather’s practice includes trial and appellate work in the North Carolina and federal court systems. She has also participated, with colleagues, in successful appeals before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third Circuit (alleged insurance fraud) and Fourth Circuit (alleged professional negligence and interference with contract), as well as the North Carolina Court of Appeals (property boundary dispute).

Heather served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Welton Curtis Sewell, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Virginia. In 2004, she became the first Buncombe County attorney to win the North Carolina Bar Association's Younger Lawyer Pro Bono Service Award for her work representing a property owner in a construction warranty action through the Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyers Program at Pisgah Legal Services.

For nine years, Heather served as the Executive Director of the Asheville Jewish Community Center, guiding the organization to growth and excellence in human services (including early childhood education, summer day camp, afterschool enrichment programming, teen youth groups, recreation programs, senior services, case management and counseling). Under her leadership the organization expanded services, created a new family services corporation, developed formal collaborations with other community organizations and received national recognition for innovative work in children's environmental education.
